TTG Luxury: Talk of the Town

Africa Travel's MD Frances Geoghegan was quoted in TTG Luxury’s recent focus on Cape Town which explores the city's growing popularity and the latest attractions topping visitors' to-do lists.

Cape Town was not only awarded the title of World Design Capital 2014 but voted top destination for 2014 by both The Guardian and New York Times. In reality, its status as World Design Capital is more about making the city a better place in which to live and work than about attracting tourists.

Whatever the reason, it all seems to be having a halo effect; according to Western Cape's tourism minister, Alan Winde, international arrivals at Cape Town airport in the first quarter of this year increased 3% year on year.

Frances Geoghegan, managing director of Africa Travel, confirms that booking levels for summer 2015 are already strong too.

She adds: “Since Mandela’s death, Robben Island and in-the-footsteps-of-Mandela walking tours have gained in popularity and there is also an increase in demand for tours to the townships to explore the cultural side of the city, and to enjoy the flourishing urban scene.”
